Dr. Baty was born and raised in Rome, Georgia (graduate of Armuchee High School). She lived here most of her life and went to Floyd College until transferring her credits to the University of Georgia where she received her undergraduate degree. She earned a Bachelors of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders. She stayed there after graduating and completed a year of Master's level classes in Deaf Education before moving to Washington, D.C.
